LeedThe LEED green building certifi-cation program is a voluntary, consensus-based national rating system
for buildings designed, constructed and operated for improved environ-mental and human health perfor-mance. LEED addresses all building types and emphasizes state-of-the-art strategies in five areas: sustainable site develop-ment, water savings, energy efficiency, materials and resources selection, and indoor environmental quality.

LEED Accredited Professionals (LEED APs) have demonstrated a thorough under-standing of green building tech-niques, the LEED Green Building Rating System, and the certification process.  The LEED AP program is administered by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), which was established with the support of the USGBC to allow for objective, balanced management of the credentialing program.

The USGBC is dedicated to expanding green building practices and educa-tion, and its LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System.
