If not for our valued Donors Circle Program Members -- businesses that have stepped up and
offered extraordinary charitable support for our nonprofit organization -- we would not be able to make the educational strides we consistently produce in our South Florida community.  To that
end, we profusely thank and honor those companies listed below.

Florida Atlantic University opened its doors in 1964 as the fifth public university in Florida.  Today, the University serves more than 28,000 undergraduate and graduate students on seven campuses and sites. Building on its rich tradition as a teaching university, with a world-class faculty, FAU hosts 10 colleges: Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts & Letters; the Charles E. Schmidt College of Biomedical Science; the College of Business; the College for Design and Social Inquiry; the College of Education; the College of Engineering & Computer Science; the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College;
the Graduate College; the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing; and the
Charles E. Schmidt College of Science.

FAU's College of Engineering & Computer Science is housed in an innovative 97,000 sf "living learning laboratory."  This newly constructed facility is the first higher-education academic building in southeast Florida designed and built to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum level standards. This high-performance facility places the University, College and local community at the national forefront of energy conservation and environmental stewardship efforts while acting as a catalyst for the creation of more sustainable infrastructures.  This holistically designed building, which also houses the offices of the USGBC South Florida Chapter, serves as an important showcase for "green" building and system design strategies and building management practices. “Engineering on display” is the theme exemplified throughout the building by way of touch-screen components allowing access to real-time data collected by sensors and online systems, which are infused into sustainability research projects and courses offered across the College and University. www.eng.fau.edu / 561-297-2083

Office Depot is one of the world's largest resellers of office products.  Long recognized as an environmental leader, the company has made green building a cornerstone of its environmental strategy.  In 2008, Office Depot became the first retailer to have a store certified under the LEED for Retail Volume Certification pilot.  That store, in Austin, TX, obtained LEED NC Gold.  More recently, Office Depot announced that all stores built in 2010 in North America will seek LEED CI; the company’s Global Headquarters in Boca Raton is pursuing LEED EB; and its new warehouse in Pennsylvania is pursuing LEED NC.

Office Depot's ongoing commitment to environmental leadership has recently been underscored when Newsweek Magazine named the company as the greenest retailer in American.  In Newsweek’s annual survey, Office Depot was also ranked as the 18th greenest company in the USA due to its industry-leading scores in the following areas: Environmental Impact, Key Impacts, Disclosure, Image vs. Reality, Green Policies, and Reputation Survey.

Green Building falls under "be green" within Office Depot’s global environmental strategy to increasingly buy green, be green and sell green.  To buy green, Office Depot sources thousands of products that meet or exceed LEED Sustainable Purchasing criteria.  To sell
green, the company has created many unique tools to help the green building community, including:

  • The Green Book: A catalog of 2000+ of Office Depot’s greenest items.
  • GreenerOffice website: A site with 6000+ items from light green options such as refillable pencils to the darkest green products -- e.g., 100% post-consumer recycled, carbon-balanced paper.
  • GreenerOffice Checklist: A 100-step checklist to help offices go greener in a systematic manner.  Steps that may contribute to LEED EB are identified.
  • LEED Credit Report: For buildings that buy all supplies from Office Depot, this report can be submitted to the USGBC instead of the time-consuming online pdf.
