The Treasure Coast Branch of the U.S. Green Building Council South Florida Chapter and it's sponsors are proud to announce Generation Green - The 2012 Green Apple Awards. Award Criteria

Nominees will be evaluated on their demonstration of a commitment to integrating a culture of sustainability into their schools' culture, operations and the lifestyle of those they serve, or their child shares. Nominees will also be evaluated on their demonstrated leadership, advocacy, and commitment to the advancement of the mission of the U.S. Green Building Council in the marketplace and in the community.

Nomination Criteria
  • Open to all public and private K-12 schools and higher education institutes.
  • Must be located within the USGBC South Florida Chapter Treasure Coast Branch’s geographical region, which includes the counties of Indian River, Okeechobee, St. Lucie and Martin.
  • To qualify for consideration, the nominee’s initiative/program/project must have been implemented in 2011. 
  • A nomination may not be entered in more than one category.
  • Neither applicants nor nominees are required to be members of the USGBC or the USGBC South Florida Chapter. 
Nomination Submission Guidelines
  1. This is a paperless submission. The complete application must be submitted via e-mail (with attachments) by 5:00 p.m. EST on Friday 23rd, 2012 to Niki Gozdz at niki@crossroadsarchitecture.biz You will receive an email confirming receipt of your entry materials. No extensions of time will be made.
  2. The completed Entry Form and the required Narrative Description of the Green Achievement or Project must be submitted electronically as a Microsoft Word or .pdf file - 20MB or smaller. Supporting materials such as photos, images, drawings, and diagrams should be clearly marked and included as separate attachments. All non-text supporting documentation must be printable on 8 1/2" x 11" sized paper, and use 10 point font with no less than 1/2" margins. Submission should be limited to ten (10) pages including narrative* and other supporting materials, including photos. 
  3. Specific questions may be directed to the Generation Green - Green Apple Awards Committee by email to Niki Gozdz at niki@crossroadsarchitecture.biz
Judging Criteria will be based on:
Holistic Approach - Demonstration of prevention as well as future treatment for the overall sustainability and welfare of the community.
Process/Design Strategies - Demonstration of design and process strategies, including innovative solutions to design challenges. Description of the aspects of this process, including the composition of the project team that enabled the project goals to be met.
Project Results/ Lessons Learned - Description of goals that were met, especially as they relate to the topics of sustainability. Description of resulting benefits to the community, a healthy society, and the environment.
Additional Supporting Materials - The additional materials / images submitted with this entry that represent and illustrate the strategies implemented in the project.
Nominee Rights and Agreement
  • Property - USGBC South Florida will retain the Applicant's entry materials as long as needed to fulfill program requirements. By participating in the Generation Green - Green Apple Awards, Applicant grants to the USGBC South Florida an unlimited, permanent, nonexclusive license under which the USGBC South Florida may take, transcribe or quote from the materials, create derivative works and publish in any format for Generation Green - Green Apple Awards - related publicity and publications.
  • Photographs - Photographs submitted with the application become the property of USGBC South Florida. If the photographs are not owned by the Applicant, Applicant must obtain the rights from the photographer or owner to reprint the photographs without limitations. Ownership of a physical photograph is not sufficient permission to copy and send photos to USGBC South Florida for use with limitations. Any liability for copyright violation shall be borne solely by the Applicant, and Applicant agrees to defend, indemnify and hold the USGBC South Florida, its sponsors and their respective officers, members, employees, representatives and agents harmless from any damages arising from the use of such photography in any manner.
  • Original Work - The Applicant represents and warrants that the work is original, that its publication will not infringe on the rights of others, and that it has the full power to make this grant.
