If you're a Floridian, and particularly a South Floridian, you likely know that travel and tourism equals business and commerce.
Just how big is this contribution? It's of a magnitude that one might find difficult to imagine.
Florida's tourism industry -- encompassing transportation, catering, accommodations, recreation and services for travelers
-- is the State's largest industry and generator of jobs. It's huge ... and therefore critical for our State's future. And it needs to go green.
Sustainable Tourism Initiative Committee
The goal of the Sustainable Tourism Initiative Committee of the USGBC South Florida Chapter -- to be a catalyst for the transformation of these industries through the way buildings and properties are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy and prosperous environment that improves the quality of South Florida life, as well as visitor and guest experiences, by:
- Providing educational opportunities
- Establishing the Chapter as a technical resource
- Promoting sustainable practices that are in line with the LEED Rating Systems.
Our nonprofit Chapter seeks to partner with major stakeholder organizations that drive the hospitality and tourism industries. When such collaborations are established, common goals are bolstered, whether it is lowering operational costs or stimulating the local economy.
